5GMediaHUB at V5G days

V5G days

5GMediaHUB hosted a networking event during the Valencia 5G Days (V5G) 2023 event in the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia (UPV) in Valencia, Spain in November 2023. One of the key themes of V5G was centered on exploring the future of mobile technology, a topic closely linked with the project.

This 5GMediaHUB workshop was a hybrid event, with the participants mainly present in person in UPV, with some of the presenters joining remotely. The networking event was organised by BRA, who secured an afternoon session titled ‘Media application testing workshop using the 5GMediaHUB platform for SMEs’ on 14 November 2023 in the main lecture hall of the event. Participants from diverse fields, including national operators, attended.

The agenda for the workshop was as follows:

  • Welcome and introduction to workshop (Andrea Castelli, BRA)
  • Funding opportunities for SMEs in SNS (Maurizio Checchi, PIIU Association)
  • 5GMediaHUB Project Introduction (Dr Kostas Ramantas, IQU)
  • 5GMediaHUB platform employment for Network Application testing and validation (Thomas Azrak, EBOS Technologies, and Michail Sfakianos, APART)
  • Examples from Project Use Cases/Demos (Andrea Castelli, BRA)
  • Exploring Potential Commercial Opportunities of the 5GMediaHUB Experimentation Platform (Ronan Frizzell, ICP)

The session from EBOS and APART involved a live demonstration of the 5GMediaHUB Experimentation Facility to show the functionality and ease of validating network applications using the project assets. Audience members were encouraged to visit the project’s booth to learn about the immersive 360o VR media experiences supported by the 5GMediaHUB Experimentation Facility and discuss the technical challenges that were overcome to realise the use case. Emphasis was also placed on the open nature of the 5GMediaHUB Experimentation Facility and participants were encouraged to engage with the project to better understand how their applications could be enhanced through testing on 5GMediaHUB infrastructure.

The market opportunity for the 5GMediaHUB Experimentation Facility was discussed in detail during the closing talk of the workshop. This covered the Facility’s potential as an enabler to facilitate rich interactions between connectivity providers and network users looking to take advantage of future telecom systems. From the application developer’s perspective, the 5GMediaHUB Experimentation Facility supports testing of applications to highlight the value-added benefits of 5G. This pre-release testing enhances confidence in terms of the services that can be effectively delivered to customers on 5G networks. Other business benefits enabled by the platform were also discussed, including 1) for media professionals, its capability to explore more cost-effective media production processes using 5G, and 2) for network users, the opportunity to showcase application performance on 5G networks to support investment discussions and increase market traction.

5GMediaHUB also had a booth in V5G days where a demo of the immersive media network application was available for event participants to interact with and better understand the outcomes of the project. 5GMediaHUB was listed in a prominent position alongside the key sponsors of the event in promotional material.
